Help kids in Nepal learn.

100% of all donations made to the COVID-19 Learning Fund will give public school students in Nepal an opportunity to learn at home while schools are closed.

The COVID-19 pandemic has closed all public schools in Nepal.

Thousands of students are missing out on learning due to school closures. They are at risk of falling behind or dropping out of school completely. We can change that.

Our partners in Nepal are ready with projects that can help give 4.000+ students an opportunity to learn through SMS-texts and phone calls with weekly assignments and exercises.

60 kr./10$ helps 1 student learn at home.

THE PROJECTS

Because access to WIFI is extremely limited, we will use low-tech solutions based on SMS-texts and phone calls to help public school students learn at home while schools are closed.

THE 100% PROMISE

Our administration expenses are covered by a group of private donors and foundations, which means we can send 100% of all donations directly to our local partners. You can read more about the 100%-model right here.

REPORT & RESEARCH

We will send you an email as soon as funds are sent to the field, and once the final report and research paper is published. If you donate using MobilePay and want updates, please write your email in the “Add comment” section when transferring.

Questions & Answers

Changing Stories is a registered nonprofit in Denmark established in 2016. Our vision is to build a world where every kid learns. We are a small team of passionate staff members, volunteers and supporters passionate about helping kids become unstoppable. We partner with our sister organisation, Changing Stories Nepal, as well as other local partners, to implement learning initiatives in Nepal.

The main project we plan to use funds for is a SMS-text and phone call learning initiative targeted public school students in Nepal. If we raise more funds than needed we may allocate it to other learning initiatives that can help kids learn while schools are closed, and to bridge the learning gap once they reopen. Our target areas are the cities of Hetauda and Tulsipur, where we have worked over the past 3.5 years.

Absolutely. The security and confidentiality of your information is our highest priority. We use industry-standard SSL (secure socket layer) technology with help from Donorbox to protect your information and provide a safe and secure environment for online donations. We will never sell, trade or share your personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations. Still got questions or concerns? Email us at

The 100% models means we have 2 separate bank accounts. 1 account for project costs and 1 account for operational costs. When you give through The Classroom, 100% of your monthly contribution will go into the project account. Once a project is fully funded we will send the money to our implementing partner and sister-organisation in Nepal, Changing Stories Nepal. Contributions will cover expenses needed to successfully implement the project. Expenses can be anything from training for our fellows, teaching materials, salaries for local staff, investing in capacity building of our local partners, transportation to and from the field, as well as snacks for the students.

Our operating costs, on the other hand, are funded by a group of private donors and foundations who contribute to cover expenses including salaries, research and development, fundraising, and any other necessities needed to run an organisation that is able to deliver impact. Want to be a member of The Control Room, the group of private donors who fund our operating costs? We’d love to have you! Email Co-Founder and CEO René Joehnke at for more information.

That being said, the 100% model does not mean we believe administration/overhead costs are inherently bad. They are absolutely necessary. We firmly believe that the stipulation that overhead has to be less than a certain percentage for an organisation to be “good” or “effective” is a myth. Running a professional organisation able to deliver effective and long-lasting impact means having expenses for employees, offices, systems and processes, fundraising and so much more. What should matter most is not the percentage you spend on overhead, but your ability to create and measure the impact your programs have on the people you serve. We chose the 100% model for its simplicity and transparency.

Our operating costs, on the other hand, are funded by a group of private donors and foundations who contribute to cover expenses including salaries, research and development, fundraising, and any other expenses needed to run an organisation. We’re so, so glad you asked! We invest considerable time, resources and energy into impact evaluations of any project we fund. In practice what we do is simple: we measure student learning levels before, during, and after the intervention – in order to determine how much progress students havde made. Want to see for yourself? Check out our impact evaluation reports here.

We have, unfortunately, not yet reached the 300 members required by the Danish tax authorities to be able to offer tax-deduction on donations to Changing Stories. Where counting on soon reaching the 300 members required, and will send out emails with information when it happens. Want to help us get there? Consider signing up to become a member of The Classroom!
